OBS is a free and open source software that is used for live streaming. Anything you wish to stream can be put into OBS, which will then be sent to Projektor where we will host your livestream. With a bit of practice, you'll be able to easily customize and set-up your live stream. If you haven't already, you can download OBS here.
When you open OBS you'll see a variety of components which allow you to control what your viewers will see or hear. We've included a basic overview of some of the most essential components that you will need to know about below. In addition, you can find a more detailed video tutorial of OBS in the video below.
(Note that Projektor is not affiliated with any of the links above).
- Main Window in the center - This window allows your to see what you are broadcasting once you start your stream. This window is black by default because there's nothing to display. What appears in the window is what your viewers will see
- Scenes - Allows you to split up your stream into various parts, prepare them beforehand, and transition easily between them. For example you might want to include scenes for welcoming viewers, showing your webcam, screening your film, hosting a discussion, ending the event etc.
- Sources - Allows you to add components to a scene. (e.g. webcam, videos, images, window on your pc etc.) Multiple components can be created for one scene, and will be listed in the sources window. Items that are higher on the list, will be displayed on top of lower items.
- Audio Mixer - Displays all the sources of audio in the currently active scene. Allows you to adjust the volume or mute/unmute each source individually.
- Scene Transitions - Allows you to change the the animation that is played when you transition between scenes, as well as how long the animation will last.
- Controls - Allows you to start and end broadcasting the information to Projektor. (Note that you will still need to publish and start your stream on Projektor to officially start a stream) Also allows you to record your stream and save it to your computer.
